A note from Dave Sincoff, President of Commercial Sign Crafters.

Our Case Study pages attempt to provide insight into our design and production process. By sharing details of how we achieved our client’s goals, we hope to demonstrate the importance of a collaborative process. We're good at what we do, but we respect and understand that you have an intimate understanding of your business and your success is the only real measurement.

To some, the design process is sort of a black box – the so called 'creative process' where we feed information to artists/designers, they go off and create stuff they think is cool and new but may not necessarily relate to your company or it’s customers. While its good for designers to have strong, visual imaginations, without some grounding the end result is much like trying to herd cats.

A firm that places value on their client’s needs starts with the end goal in mind. The critical key is a through understanding of the challenge or business issue to be solved. It can morph and change but a unified understanding of the problem allows us to work towards the best resolution.

Some questions we might ask are: What is the current situation and what are you looking to change? What would a successful outcome look like? Additional revenue? More satisfied tenants? A new or upgraded brand? What are the basic challenges at the job site? Are there compliance or ADA issues?  What can we budget or what will you need to invest to resolve the situation?

Some people don't want to reveal what they are prepared to invest as they fear we'll just design to the maximum amount. Others may not have an idea as to what things cost and need insight so they can make an informed decision.

Without some budget parameters we could spend time developing concepts that are beyond the expected cost, or in an attempt to reduce cost, the proposed solution doesn’t solve the initial problem. Signage can be a significant investment – by getting the budget card on the table we can efficiently investigate appropriate options.

Once we have all of the information, we start looking at fabrication and design options. From there its a back and forth process – ideas, design and production options are carefully reviewed to ensure they solve the problem.

When we present ideas on paper you are looking at the cumulative results of our efforts - not just some mysterious ‘creative process’. We hope there is a little mystery and surprise and even delight in what we present, but rest assured its all based on a strong foundation of providing you with a solution that will enhance your business.

We'll work on adding new case studies and improving our documentation process. If you find this information relevant and helpful to your decision making process, please let me know your thoughts by writing to:
